- Looking back over all my projects, while all of them had their challenges and most of them were pretty successful, this project was definitely the most successful while still being challenging. The road to the finished product was long and full of problems. At first, we just practiced drawing different parts of the face (top right). I didn't think it was that difficult, but apparently no one was making it dark enough and the shading wasn't right. Once we improved on that, we moved on to the proportions of a face (bottom left). The concept was easy to grasp, but I never really used the measurements. Then we drew all the main parts of a face with the proportions (bottom right). Of course, these preliminary faces were incredibly creepy. As I've stated before, realism isn't my greatest strength. While I still had to draw realistically, I didn't have to make it indistinguishable from real life, because it is still part machine. As for the technical side, I used pencil, which is probably the most common material I use. While I've improved my shading ability, I still don't go very dark. I also could have made a more interesting background than just blended gray but the white space does provide nice contrast. The only other problems I see with it is that my mouth is small and I didn't put much effort into the teeth. Lastly, there's the idea process. Ideas are definitely not my strong suit, because it can take me up to a week to start on a project. I never really get the required amount of ideas, because the first or second idea I get is usually the best. For this project, I was inspired by Synths from Fallout 4 (a video game) because I think they look really interesting with their human like features but bright yellow eyes and exposed insides filled with wires. Besides, it was more interesting than the standard mechanical idea of the Terminator. Looking at the picture for my idea page (top left), you can see I only finished one sketch, which was what I went with. The other ideas I had were Ghouls (also from Fallout), which was my zombie idea. I believe the only thing I wrote for the expression idea was just "an expression?". As a whole, this is my favorite piece I did in Drawing and it was most likely the most successful.
